Uttlesford District Council has been successful in its funding bid to produce a district-wide design code.

Design Codes are a distinct form of detailed design guidance comprising a set of written and graphic rules that establish with precision the two- and three-dimensional design elements of a particular development or area. The benefits of Design Codes are that they help to improve the design of development and streamline development control, saving time and money for developers and local authorities. The guidance within Design Codes should be complied with as part of development proposals and can be used by local authorities in the determination of planning applications.

Uttlesford District Council will prepare the Design Code over the coming months and have announced that they will be running a number of workshops and walking tours so that local people can provide some initial thoughts and feedback. The aim of these workshops is to identify what is special about Uttlesford, reflect local aspirations, deal with local concerns and respond to people’s hopes and fears for the future.
