The new London Plan was formally adopted on 1 February 2021, this document is now a material consideration for all planning applications within Greater London.
The London Plan deal with things of strategic importance to Greater London, taking account of the principal purposes of the Greater London Authority which are:
- promoting economic development and wealth creation in Greater London
- promoting social development in Greater London and
- promoting the improvement of the environment in Greater London.
The plan is implements a number of commitments made by the current Major of London (Sadiq Khan) when he was elected mayor of London in 2016, including improving the capital’s air quality, making London a zero-carbon city by 2030, a long-term target for 50 per cent affordable homes in new developments, and protecting the green belt. it also introduced updated space and quality standards for new build homes.
