Medway Council have started a public consultation on the emerging Medway Local Plan 2040. The emerging Local Plan would replace the currently adopted Local Plan 2003 and the Council hope that it will meet the development needs as the population grows to make sure there is enough land for housing, homes, jobs and services for residents by providing a framework for where development can take place, and areas that need to be protected such as key areas for wildlife.

The key issues that the Local Plan will cover include protecting the environment, addressing climate change, improving transport choices, growing local businesses and improving community facilities.

The Regulation 18 Consultation opened on the 18th September 2203 and will close on the 31st October 2023. It provides residents with an opportunity to comment on the Plan’s key themes, priorities and vision, improvements to the local environment, support for communities, how to strengthen the economy, how to regenerate the urban centres and riverside sites and potential development in suburban and rural areas. This consultant does not include detailed policies or identify sites preferred by the Council for new development.

The consultation will be predominantly online where interested parties are able to provide their comments and the Council have announced that they will be running local events during October to allow residents to look at the proposals and speak to members of the Planning Team.
